It’s time for the first ever two-year rent freeze.

In the past, rent freezes have only applied to one-year leases. This year must be different. We are living through an unprecedented crisis with rising rents, ICE deportations, wartime inflation, and deep cuts to our social safety net. This moment demands an unprecedented response: no rent increases on any leases.

A real rent freeze must cover both one- and two-year leases. Millions of New Yorkers choose two-year leases for stability, including working people, retirees, and residents of gentrifying neighborhoods. A rent freeze must not leave out the people who need stability most.

Rent stabilization is the backbone of affordable housing in New York. It keeps people in their homes and communities intact, especially low-income households and people of color. Without it, the city loses the people who make it run.

No half measures. No exclusions.

All leases. No increases.
